One of the more common plumbing problems that homeowners face is a clogged sink. There are a few things you can do to try to clear a clogged sink on your own before calling a plumber. Be sure to try each of these methods in order, as they will each be more effective if the previous method doesn’t work.
The first thing you can do is use a plunger. Wet the plunger and place it over the drain. Push and pull the plunger up and down a few times. If this doesn’t work, you can try using a wire hanger. Bend the hanger into a hook and try to snag the clog. If that doesn’t work, you can try using vinegar and a baking soda mixture. Pour a cup of vinegar down the drain and wait a few minutes. Then, pour a cup of baking soda down the drain and wait a few more minutes. Finally, pour a pot of boiling water down the drain.
If none of these methods work, it’s time to call a plumber. He or she will be able to use a snake to clear the clog.
